Having had just the same problem on a motor, I can guess what it going on.
Magnet(s) have broken.  Take the motor apart carefully, and see how bad 
they
are.  They are held in by 30 year old epoxy.  If they are in large enough
chunks, you can repair them with a very, very thin coat of epoxy.  Search
the archives for "magnets" or "magnet".  While you have it open, you might
consider replacing the bearings, Harold Z has new sealed ones.
