The POR hardens when exposed to air.  There are a number of low pressure 
aeresol products that you pour into the top of a partially used can of 
paint that displaces the air and creates an inert barrier.   Probably 
nothing but nitrogen.  T

I agree with using POR-15 rather that Rust-oleum (never had decent 
results with it).  After it's opened the POR will harden, in the can, 
over time, but I've had opened cans for maybe a year that were still 
fine.  That said , when I buy more, I will get the small cans  so I 
don't have to  be concerned that  it's hardening-- while I'm sleeping.  ;-)
