Interesting.  Perhaps I've missed something - besides extreme 
overdischarge 
situations, when a cell is reversed, when do lead acid batteries produce 
explosive gases on discharge? Are you speaking of hydrogen, or some other 
explosive gas?  If some other, what process causes this evolution?
