Re: (ET) Battery charger question

For replacement batteries try used batteries from your local battery store. I've picked up several batteries from my local place and have had good luck with them. The last set were less than a year old and seem to be fine. People replace batteries sometimes for no good reason. Since you are using 12V batteries you want deep discharge marine type at least. Others on this list probably know better what type to look for.

Thanks to all who replied. I tried this charger and it has no output. I took the cover off and it doesn't seem to have any kind of timer in it either. It's just a transformer, a capacitor and some diodes. I really don't think I'd want to use it if it did work. I would forget to unplug it and let it run too long. I was wondering if anyone could suggest where to get a decent used charger. I also put my 12 volt charger on each of the three batteries for about 1 1/2 hours. Two of them read 11.5 volts and the third only reads 9.5 volts. It ran the motor good enough for me to tell it was okay as well as the transmission. I think I'd like to replace the batteries. What do I need to look for in new batteries? They are 12 volt, that all I know about them. I don't really want spend a lot of money on batteries and a charger. This is going to be used mainly to get around at tractor shows. I do want a decent quality battery though. It does have a mower deck on it so I may use it to do the trimming if it works out okay. I'm open to any suggestions. Tim

That charger is fine; better than the original which was only 25
    amps max.

I just bought a Wheel Horse E-81. It looks to be basically a rear
engine rider with an electric motor instead of a gas engine. It
has 3 twelve volt batteries. The guy I bought it from didn't have
the charger for it. I was wonder what rate the batteries should be
charged at. I have a 36 volt charger that puts out 30 amps. Would
this be what I need to charge this. The plugs are different from
the mower to the charger so I'll have to figure out a way to
connect it. The charger I have is from a Clarke floor sweeper and
has a plug the has two flat lugs the mower takes what looks to be
a twist lock plug. Could I just put ends from a regular battery
charger or jumper cables and hook it directly to the batteries
making sure that I go through all three batteries?
Tim
