Re: (ET) E8 Motor overheating
Is it actually overheating, or has the thermal limiter taken a
powder,
due to being thirty some years of age?
Does it actually have aroma of stressed insulation, or does it just
operate for a brief period of time, then pass out ?
I've seen two different types of limiters on those, one a very small
one, contained in the brush holder end bell, that opens the RTN circuit to
prevent a fatal meltdown.
The second type takes the brute force approach, using a Klixon®
limiter of the same type but different rating as used on the large frame
traction motors.
It just plain opens the armature circuit. Period.
Any competent motor shop can handle armature issues.
Things get ugly if the PM fields have disintegrated, however. :(
