First thing to do is call up Bill Gunn (608 868-6220; call mornings) and
order
a copy of the Homeowner's Service Manual. It has schematics and
troubleshooting flowcharts. Makes the tractor much easier to fix.
The small relays (on my E15) provide reversing by reversing the polarity
of
the field, and switch in the field weakening for the highest few speeds.
Resistors shouldn't get hot when motor isn't running. I agree that you
probably don't have field voltage. Get the manual and a voltmeter and dig
in.
