Why not just measure the output voltage of the controller, measure the throttle 'pot' resistance/voltage at that output setting, and apply a fixed circuit (resistor or control voltage) in place of the throttle?  You may want several settings, one for 'float', one for 'charge', one for 'equalize'... depending on the type of battery used (uh, assuming a separate 12v battery is used as a cushion...)

It could be tricky to figure out where "1/3" was.  Probably the safest thing to do would be to start low and compare the speed of the winch running on a real 12V battery versus the controller until it was about the same.

yes that was mentioned a coupla weeks ago wasn't it.  never did hear the
results of anyone having had tried it.  I recall someone warning about the
probability that the controller may not be linear.
