RE: (ET) New failure mode...

Actually, I HAVE seen this. The forward/reverse micro-switch is out of
adjustment (bent wrong) OR
the throttle pin is worn or too small. This is the switch under the
control
mounted at an angle.

If the pin that holds the throttle lever has been replaced, you can get
motion that allows reverse before
forward has stopped or vise/versa. Similarly, if the micro switch is bent
wrong you can get the same
motion problem. You can get at the micro switch lever through the throttle
slot, and at the pin by
dropping the two screws that hold the firewall/fuse relay plate and sliding
it forward. Yes, this is a
real bummer; I got it when I replaced the forward/reverse micro switch
(that
wasn't bad...).

Sense this was brought up... I have a weird problem with my e12m while
under load. While moving my ski boat around with it this spring (build a
front hitch for the e12m and man is that slick), I would be backing up and
move the lever from reverse to natural, I would get the e12m jumping from
reverse to forward and back a couple of times before settling down in
natural. It make for a very nervous driver as you are trying to position
something fairly big in a small place. It has only happened 3 times but
all
three times it was while moving a fairly heavy item and the tractor was
going from reverse to natural. I have never had it happen while mowing or
moving around the yard on it's own.
Any ideas.

I had a somewhat similiar problem (E12S) - reverse ok, forward
intermittent.
In my case the the reverse relay contacts had welded. One reverse contact
welded the common and wouldn't let it touch the forward contact. Well
actually it finally did and blew off the end of the relay.....

Is this the problem I've heard that arises from not stopping completely
going from forward to reverse?

Did someone find a better protected version of this relay - I don't like
those contacts out in the open.

E20 (which I got running this weekend!)
