(ET) GE charger replacement

When three of my Electrak chargers went bad (shorted transformers) I new I
had to find replacements quick or let the Electraks sit in the field.

The quick solution was to go to a local golf course and purchase two 36volt
golf cart chargers - cheap. They were not working but I felt I could
repair
them and I was right. One just needed a new fuse and the other needed a
diode which I replaced.

I removed the timer and cord from the Electrak (leaving the transformer in
the tractor for weight) and replaced them with a cable that I had
constructed. Two wires went to points S1 and S3 of the charger (removing
two
wires that were previously there). The other ends of the two wires
terminated in a connector that matched the connector of the golf cart
charger.

I've used this method to charge my electrak batteries now for two years.
It
is not as convenient as plugging in to any ac outlet as I have to park the
tractor near the charger, which is sitting on my work bench in the garage.

I have pictures of the Lester charger and the connector if anyone is
interested.
