These are fine but expensive. In on-road EVs, some people put up with
the increased operating costs (about 3.5 times as much per km of actual
use compared to flooded golf car batteries) in return for the lack of
acid cleaning hassles and positioning flexibility.
AGMs are the way to go for high-current on-road EVs, but you need not be
afraid of good quality gel batteries in this application. I use 6 group
24 Deka Dominators in series-parallel in my ET and they work great.
I charge them with 3 individual 12 volt chargers, which is essential in
an ET which still uses battery taps for the lights and lifts. You could
go to a single (properly designed) 36v charger by powering the lights and
lifts from a DC:DC converter.
