(ET) How do I change motor bearings

In addition to Steve's detailed instructions; apply a "little" heat to
the
blade holder and it will just slide right off. You only need enough heat to
"warm" the blade holder without melting the rubber washer under the blade
holder. DO NOT heat the blade holder cherry red! It might be a good idea to
replace the rubber washers under the blade holders. The rubber washers are
the only thing that stands between your new bearings and the dirt and grass
being thrown around under your deck.
When installing the bearing opposite of the brush end (this would be the
called the PTO end of the motor shaft); use a 1" deep socket or a piece of
1" (inside diameter) pipe to apply pressure on the inner race of the
bearing.
Before installing the aluminum bottom housing on the PTO bearing; clean
the area where the bearing slides into it and wipe the film of oil from the
outer bearing surface. Then apply a small amount of Loctite and smear it
around the inside of the housing where the bearing will seat. Wipe clean
any
excess Loctite after bearing is pressed into place. The use of Loctite
keeps
the bearing from coming loose and spinning inside the aluminum housing.
Happy motoring.
