Re: Reciprocity Collaborative, well, collaboration!

Do we want to set aside some time to try to work out how this would work?

One question is whether they definitely want us to slide (is the choir sliding too? specific subsets of the congregation?). Decades ago, a choreographer used a recording of rounds, and the dancers rocked back and forth on the floor in time, as though they were bells. I'm not advocating that, just saying that there are other movement things that might work if Jenna and Sue want to experiment.

It looks interesting. It will be a little tricky to get everything to look right in a recording because of perspective issues (the pews at the back look much wider than the ones at the front) and I'm not sure how we could mark 8 spots on the pews in a way that we could slide over, but also will definitely not leave permanent marks. I think we would need to record some method and then play it on speakers in the church while sliding so that we can get the timing right. Perhaps each person should nod their head when their bell rings, to make it more clear what the relationship is. I would be willing to try this with my two older boys if the scheduling works.

We should probably try plain hunt first.

Hi! This came to me back in May, at a tricky time, and has sadly languished. Would people be interested in this? We would need to both ring something and take part in a “physical representation”. I think the timing is soonish, in that the residency ends sometime this fall.

Thanks,
Ricky

> Hi Ricky,
>
> Hope you've been nothing short of swell since we last spoke in March. It seems that summer may finally be here?!
>
> Sue and I are moving through the research stages of our residency at Old North into crafting a performing and a film for the fall/winter. One of our prompts that we're interested in capturing is something we call a 'Pew Slide', and we're intrigued to see overlapping heads in one aisle of box pews from the perspective of the back of the sanctuary. An example can be seen here <https://vimeo.com/310001541>, and a solo version here <https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxudbb_l0yK/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link>.
>
> Last Tuesday we opened our process to the public to get fresh eyes and bodies inside of the prompts, and we quickly learned that when the parameters are too wide it becomes less interesting. We'd instead like to directly correlate it with a/some methods (as there are 8 regular sized box pews per aisle!), using slight physical variations of sliding to correlate with the bells ringing. Ideally, we would edit the video so the pew slide would be a physical representation of the method as you're hearing it.
>
> Might the Guild of Bellringers be interested in not only ringing, but sliding, a method for us?! //Happy to connect by phone to explain more if that's easier.
>
> All the best,
> jenna
