Re: Ready to go live with new BAPC?

You should all have received another weekly digest email just now—this was a test of what happens with a blank calendar.

Also, the failure message for an unparseable reply now has the following form:

Your BAPC command could not be processed.

To submit or modify events, or to subscribe or unsubscribe from these weekly notices, see https://cosmos.phy.tufts.edu/bapc.html.

This email address is not monitored. If you need to speak with a human, email benvlehmann gmail com.

The system reported the following problem when parsing your command:
The subject line did not match a recognized BAPC command.

Here "benvlehmann gmail com" is the system's admin address. It can be changed in the config file.

Best,
Ben

Hi Ken,

I think it's fine for us to wait for September 9th. I'll have the system fully ready for the switchover, and you can announce it to the list at that time.

Best,
Ben

Hi, Ben.  It's almost September.  Are we ready to go live with the new
bapc?  The only thing I know of is that I don't think you ever
implemented the idea that if there are no listings it should say
something about that, rather than just having an empty message.

I think the only things to do are to change the automated system to send
to bapc cosmos phy tufts edu and to send an announcement telling people
what to do (and update https://cosmos.phy.tufts.edu/bapc.html to say
that it is live).  I checked that bapc submit gmail com is already
listed as an authorized posting address to bapc.  I also removed some
hacks involving bapc-late and bapc-announce.  The
bapc cosmos phy tufts edu list is a regular mailing list now and you can
just mail to that address. The address bapc-late cosmos phy tufts edu is
just an alias for the same list.  Generally people should not be using
either of these, but using the automated system to make changes and
letting it sent out the emails.

The only issue with all this is that I'm leaving for a trip to the UK
tomorrow morning, so if something goes wrong I might not be able to deal
with it easily.  I'll be back at work Sept. 9.  We could wait until then
if you think there won't be announcements before that.  Or switch over
now.
