Hi all,
I would like to revisit this briefly now that we are all slightly removed from the situation. First, I would like to acknowledge that David put in a fair bit of effort to try to keep tg up this week. He stepped up in John's absence when an unexpected situation arose. I appreciate that effort regardless of my feelings at the time about the outcome. Second, I think we need an official plan for what to do when John is unavailable. I think this can be that we have a consistent backup person that makes decisions when John is unavailable or someone is appointed by John or self-appointed on a case by case basis. The backup or appointed person would have the authority from the group to make decisions however they saw fit. I think the process this week wouldn't have been as frustrating to me if I could interpret David as making decisions with everyone's buy-in (including mine). So, I am looking for everyone's buy-in on this process. Let's decide how we want to do this. I might be willing to be the backup if people would accept how I would make last-minute decisions. My tendency would be to assume up until proven otherwise. Maybe people don't like that philosophy. I won't be offended if people don't want me as the backup, but I want something to be decided for times when John, our benevolent dictator, is unavailable or needs to delegate for any reason. Also, this is a good opportunity to thank John for everything he does, so I will do that. Thank you, John!
Troy
As a comment, I said in the email that at least some of you saw "How about if we don't have confirmation from Andy T+Troy+Kathy by 5 PM we are down?".
Nobody objected to that time frame until after the fact.
I was attempting to be helpful in John's absence. By offering to switch to my house. By trying to confirm that all of the exactly 8 dancers would be able/willing to come to my house. I also separately messaged Kathy and asked Judy if she knew how to call her. I tried. And I clearly regret it.

Subject: Re: [tg] [Explode-the-tape] On for C4 at Alex'sNot that I was able to make it today anyway, but for future reference, if I’m a yes, you can assume I can go anywhere on the redline/adapt my plan up until 6:30 (for a change like Alex->David, a ride from somewhere on the redline line would be appreciated, though worst case I can also call an uber).
I don’t always have time to check messages while I’m at work, but do not want tg to be called down because of it.
I would have assumed that people-who-arrive-by-car are at least as adaptable as I am, so I was also surprised to see the dance cancelled tonight.

I think it would help me in the future if people explicitly state their constraints when we need to make changes. With previous emails, the cutoff seemed more like a question to the group rather than a requirement. I would not have been surprised by the rest of this exchange under those conditions. "Say what you need" seems like a good way to communicate better.--

We can all control what we do. 5 was not the cut off for the group to meet. It was my cut off to host and participate.

Subject: Re: [tg] [Explode-the-tape] On for C4 at Alex'sI do not appreciate how arbitrary the cutoff time felt in this decision. I, for one, can't guarantee to respond by the end of the normal work day. I feel like 6 p.m. would have been an equally good time as a cutoff and would still probably allow people to make different evening plans if they wanted to. I don't appreciate the implication that nothing works when I felt like people were making a pretty good effort to adjust plans the day of the event. In my opinion, I would have assumed that Kathy was still a yes for dancing at David's because it is easy to park there. Everyone else had responded via email or discord by 5 p.m. If we need more formality in making changes on Wednesday, fine, maybe we should talk about that. Currently I'm pretty angry.

Sorry--just saw this. I'd still be in for David's, but it looks like we're off at this point.

I'm switching myself to "no" and not hosting tonight.
I wish we had a better way communicate.

If no van, can somebody get Banandy at Alewife? Judy, can we do it if no one outbound volunteers?
