Re: [Palindrome] Night crew

Excellent point. I have gone ahead and done just that; the front page of the wiki now has a link to the Night Shift page, so all you late-night types, come join me and Zebraboy to solve puzzles through the night! If anyone forgets and does email me about it, though, I'll add those people myself.

By the way, I certainly did not mean to ever imply that what happened last year was attributable to dumbness, and I apologize if that somehow came through. On the other hand, I was not aware that everyone sleeping at once was a planned strategy either, since no one told me about it (I just crashed when I needed to, and got up as early as I could). I do think it's an awfully cynical strategy, if the reasoning is "students are making this hunt, so it's going to be very buggy", and with the quality of most of the top teams these days, one that's unlikely to be useful again anytime soon. And it didn't even really help during the one super-buggy hunt in recent memory, since Setec won that.

If you're willing to be on the night shift (all the cool kids are doing it! jooooin ussss!), reply to me and NOT the whole list; after a few days I'll post the names of the night shift to the list.

Hey! This is why God created our wiki. Get thee to it, create a
"Night Shift" page, and that's where people should go to sign up.
If they don't, bug them here after a few days.

Wikis solve a huge number of the problems inherent to e-mail lists,
such as people changing their minds.

By the way, this is probably only for Friday night. Once Saturday night rolls around, it seems like there are plenty of people at all hours.

For what it's worth, *everyone* sleeping on Friday night was an
explicitly strategy this team has used in the past to win hunts. It
works when the hunt has bugs and other teams get stuck during the
night. It doesn't work when the hunt has no bugs and when other
teams have enough person-power to keep pushing solidly all night.

Perhaps we've entered the new world. (We certainly have in terms
of team size for *other* teams.) But just wanted to remind folks
that we didn't go to sleep by accident or dumbness -- it was a
calculated strategy that failed.
