Hi, Carol.  We have lots of alumni, but having current students is a
big help!

Would you be willing to deal with getting a hardwired telephone in the
room?  Of course you can't really request it until our room is
assigned, but it might be worth figuring out what you have to do
beforehand, because I suspect the timing will be tight.  Years ago,
when I did this, you had to ask for the line in the room for a minimum
of one month and it cost on the order of $50.  Don't worry about the
money -- we will take up a collection and make sure you get reimbursed
if you have to pay it.  But there was also a problem that they
wouldn't take cash but only an MIT account.  You might be able to get
your department to collect the money from you and give it to
telecommunications, or you might get the IAP office to help you.  Or,
the procedure might have changed completely in the years since I knew
how it worked.  But in any case if you could arrange this it would be
a big help.
