After much help from Hunt Central -- critical when you understand just
how much information was missing from this puzzle's flavortext -- I
have the answer: SEASON.

Synopsis: First, identify which books/pages contain the illustrations
of Dream. The page with the illustration will also contain one of the
thumbnail illustrations shown in a clockface. Determine the time for
each clock.

The flavortext for this puzzle was apparently changed at the last
minute to omit a crucial hint, that the hour on each clock face
corresponded to a specific member of the Endless, based on birth order:
Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, the twins Despair and Desire, and
Delirium. You are supposed to use the hour of the time to select
dialogue from the right Endless sibling, using the minutes to count out
the right word.

I identified 9 of the 12 images, giving me:

_ ONE OF BOOK _ WHERE DREAMS LOVE _ WITH NADA STOP

Further hints from Hunt Central gave me the missing first and fifth
words, WORD and TITLE, yielding the answer SEASON from the book title
"Season of Mists," the book showing the end of the love affair between
Dream and Nada.

sigh.
