Yes, this seems to be an unpleasant situation.  Hardly any of the
rooms have network drops, and I don't think there are enough of them
in total for everyone who is likely to want space.  On the good side,
KappaSig claimed that they would try to get more rooms from schedules
if (as seems likely) there were not enough for everyone.

I think we will certainly want to connect computers that don't have
wireless cards, so the drop is important.  I do have a wireless hub
now.  It is logically conceivable that a wired network could sit
behind the wireless hub and communicate wirelessly with MITnet.  I
don't know if it is technically feasible, and it certainly would
require special permission from Debby's contacts who we all hope will
still be working at MIT.

If possible, perhaps we can get some intelligence from KappaSig about
our chances of getting a decent room (e.g., if they are going to be
first-come first-served and we are in good position, or not) and think
about going directly to schedules if it seems like our chances are
poor.
