Re: [Tufts-Nu] Tufts Neutrinos: Meeting this Friday (November 1st) at 12:30 pm

Hello Tufts-nu folks:

As promised, I've cooked up an online signup for Friday meetings.  The idea here is that folks who are regularly working on presentable material (students, postdocs) can sign up to give a ~30m (or longer, if relevant) presentation at a weekly group meeting.  That way, we hear from everybody semi-regularly, and nobody has to put things together at the last minute.  (This doesn't preclude last-minute updates if you want to give one, of course.)  Shorter updates are always welcome, signed-up or not.

The signup is here (please bookmark): https://signup.com/go/RGRzFDm  I've left two open slots per week, but this is editable if we need to do something one-off, change the date, etc.

The only downside of this particular site (which, AFAICT, is true of any site that offers these signups) is that it requires you to make an "account" to sign up, but I haven't discovered any adverse effects of having done so yet, and it doesn't cost anything.

Let me know if you discover any issues, have trouble with the site, etc.  I'll start pestering people to sign up next week, if slot aren't getting filled before then :)

Dear Tufts Neutrinos,

We will meet this Friday (November 1st) at our new usual start time of 12:30 pm.

As previously, sandwiches and cokes will be available for in-person attendees.

Please take note of this week’s Colloquium – is hot topic for the future of the USA neutrino program:

Speaker:  Brooke Russell, The Neil and Jane Pappalardo Special Fellow in Physics,

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

TitleThe 2x2 Demonstrator for the DUNE ND-LAr Near Detector based on the ArgonCube Design

We have no Talks scheduled, however there are recent events which could be

usefully discussed:

  1. Fermilab’s transformer fire has pointed up additional hardware issues.   Is the Lab’s

Neutrino Program in jeopardy ?

  1.  A MINERvA doctoral thesis study suggests anomalous behavior in nu_e flavor production.

It is not clear that the collaboration has sufficient manpower to ensure a thorough review of this before

it goes out as a Wine & Cheese.

  1. Open mike for reports of new developments.

It is possible that Brooke Russell will join us towards the end of this meeting.

C U on Friday !
