[Emeriti-faculty] Fwd: Goldwater Scholarship information for faculty

Please see the message below and consider whether you know of current sophomores or juniors who would be strong candidates for this scholarship. This is a very prestigious and lucrative scholarship, and our students have competed successfully for it in the past.  If you have suggestions you can let me know or contact Laura Doane directly.

Seeking names of outstanding students for Goldwater consideration!

The Goldwater Scholarship is the preeminent national award for college sophomores and juniors in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering. Tufts may nominate up to four students to the national competition and has a strong history of winners. Successful candidates have some research experience, the ability to articulate their work and future research goals, and the intention of pursuing additional education, usually towards the terminal degree in their field. Applications for Tufts nomination will be due to the Office of Undergraduate Education by January 3, 2011. Interested students are highly encouraged to work with the Director of Advising & Scholarships well in advance of this date.

Please send the names of ANY motivated, promising students in any year to laura doane tufts edu.; she will contact them to meet in person and suggest opportunities that may be of interest.
