The ExCollege is holding an Election Night trivia event in Hotung on 
November 2nd, and we hope to have faculty members present. Could you 
please send the following message from one of our student Board Members 
to your faculty and staff? Many thanks for your help in publicizing this 
program!

Dear Faculty,

Last spring the ExCollege held “Are You Smarter than a Faculty Member?” 
trivia night, in which teams of students played trivia against one super 
team of professors. More than 250 students packed into Hotung, sitting 
on tables, the floor, and banisters to try defeat the professors. It was 
a truly awesome environment. This All-star squad included: Dean James 
Glaser, Professor Edith Balbach (Community Health), Professor Natalie 
Masuoka (Political Science), Professor Sam Sommers (Psychology), 
Professor Kent Portney (Political Science), and Professor Steve Cohen 
(Education). The All-Stars finished second, and immediately vowed revenge.

Because of the outstanding success of this event, the ExCollege is 
holding a second “Are You Smarter than a Faculty Member?” trivia night, 
however, this time, there is a twist. Taking advantage of the extremely 
important election the questions and prizes will have a political 
tinge—whether relating to the current candidates, politicians on 
television shows, or the missteps of Christine O’Donnell’s campaign. Our 
goal is to eclipse our Spring 2010 success, and we hope to have more 
than one faculty squadron. If you are possibly free on November 2nd from 
8:00-10:00 pm your attendance at this event would be truly spectacular. 
And please feel free to field a team of your choice, but if you’d rather 
be a free agent, we can always connect you with other interested faculty 
as well.
