“The Supercontinuum Light Source: Improved Methods of Generation and 
Spectroscopic Use”
By investigating the physical relationships between various optical and 
material parameters, we achieve dramatic enhancement of optical 
nonlinearities during laser pulse propagation in photonic crystal fiber 
(PCF), resulting in improved techniques of pulse transformation leading 
to supercontinuum generation. A supercontinuum light source is 
subsequently used in conjunction with optical tweezers in a new 
technique of spectroscopic investigation. Some early results obtained 
using this technique are presented, as well as future directions.
