Re: (ET) sickle bar motor

I sent Mike a massive write-up on how to fix the magnets (same thing was on my Elec-trak vacuum). If you swap the old motor I'd be happy to take the old one, fix it, and keep it as a spare here.

The trick is this: Get a piece of say plywood and cut a strip that is just wide enough to fit between the two remaining motor magnets. You know, the space between the magnets against the motor shell.

Then cut another piece of plywood to press against both magnets when placed in the center of the motor. The idea is you're building shims that would hold the magnets in place when you glue them.

Now try to use those shims with your two magnet parts and the remaining good magnet. THE BIG IMPORTANT THING IS THE BROKEN MAGNET HAS TO GO BACK INTO THE SHELL IN THE SAME ORIENTATION IT CAME OUT. Normally there is yellow paint or sealant stuff on the edge of the magnet that was facing the closest end of the motor shell. That's the "North South" orientation and if you install the magnet backwards the motor will not work.

When you're sure you have the magnet pieces back in and the shims hold the magnet both in line with the other one and pressed against the shell that's when you get the JB Weld, mix it up, and put it on the magnet back and the shell. I recommend polishing off any junk on the back of the magnet and any rust on the shell. Put the JB weld on the broken magnet parts and press it all together as you put in the shims which will (a) hold the magnet parts together and (b) press the whole thing against the wall. Align it vertically with the other magnet and wait 24 hours.

Then you're in business.

 Good Morning Mike,

Without researching this too hard, I think this motor is either an E10M or E12 (permanent magnet version of course) drive motor. If you give me the length of the magnet housing without the end caps and the length of the magnets themselves I could tell you and maybe help you out. There may also be a model number inside the wiring cover which could be helpful.

 Sincerely,

Gentlemen,I am trying to resurrect a Haban sickle bar attachment.  My immediate concern is the motor.  It has a broken magnet and bad bearings.  Three different rebuild shops have declined. I am pursuing 3 different avenues.1. Does anyone have more/any specs for this motor?  HP, rpms? GE serial/model number? Perhaps I could find a suitable substitute or parts.2. Speaking with others it seems there are only a couple original motors around. Any additional info on existing/surviving motors?3. The broken magnet seems the hardest puzzle piece to solve. Any suggestions?Thank you for any input. As an aside, I (my ElecTrak collection) was the cover story of "Vintage Tractor Digest" magazine March/April 2025 issue. See attachment.
