Re: (ET) Removing wheel hubs from transmission

I got a number of replies about my problem. Several replied to this post,
and some replied by email messages. A number of suggestions I had already
tried - heating the hub and cooling the axle; beating outward on the hub
to override the snap rings; etc. Several did not understand what I was
trying to do, which was to put these hubs on another transaxle that I got
with no hubs, and suggested ways to destroy these hubs and get new
replacements
Finally I ended up sawing off one axle next to the hub. This gave me room
to split the case and remove the snap ring from the other axle. I then
took these parts to a friend who has a 12 ton press and he pumped it to
the max - and nothing moved. We then took the parts to a truck service
shop 2 blocks from there, where my friend used to be the service manager.
They had a 75 ton press which was able to push out the axles. There was a
loud POP when it broke loose. So there you have it - just have a good
friend who has access to a 75 ton press.Erv Troyer   Lagrange,
