HI, Chris. Sorry to hear about your E20 problems. I hope you have a nice warm shop in which to work on it.
Thank you! I have a work shed, but it's pretty nice. The most annoying problem is laying on the ground outside dropping the motor :-)
Regarding using an E15 motor -- is it compatible with the E20 motor? Having both an E15 and an I-5, I should know, but it's more of a vague feeling than actual knowledge.
It's similar, a bit smaller but I don't go to the edge with the E20 so it should work fine while I either rewind or find another E20 motor. The real problem would be the lack of a thermal cutout switch (I can just bypass that with a jumper on the D sub connector) and the fact that the E20's field wires go right into the motor from the D sub while the E15 goes through a pair of spade connectors (easy to make a quick adapter
They also have different rpms at full throttle, don't they?
I think they spin at the same speed but they do have different pulleys on the motor shaft. The E20 has a smaller(?) pulley if I recall and of course it has two sheaves. The E15 has a single sheave and belt.
I know I removed the pulley from the E20 when I rebuilt it, not sure if I did that with the E15. One step might be to get the pulley off the E15 and swap in the E20 one.
