(ET) Magnets, part 2

Ok, so today I decided to repair the broken magnet in the new motor shell. Not too hard a task, but interesting.

First I took a look in the shell and took a picture. It looks like the magnets are *NOT* glued in there with manly glue. In fact it appears that they just put some double stick TAPE on the magnet and expected that to hold...

I mean, what the HECK? It doesn't cover the magnet or even go to the edge. My guess is that the magnet end vibrates a bit and eventually pulls loose and vibrates apart. What a junky way for GE to do it...

Anyway I mixed up a nice batch of JB Weld, put it on the back and side of the magnet fragment, put more in the housing and on the broken side of the good magnet, then forced the broken part in and held it with the jigs.

My guess is the side jig will have enough glue on it I'll have to chisel it out, but I'll try moving it in 6 hours after the glue sets. Then test it all tomorrow...

Never dull.
