My never has failed procedure:
Remove 2 bolts holding the front pillow block. Side pillow block off the
front of the shaft. Remove cotter pin from rear of shaft. Loosen and slide
collar down that is on the steering wheel shaft. Pull steering wheel shaft
up out of rear pillow block. Remove 2 bolts holding the rear pillow block.
Now, on most early models, and I think yours may be, you will probably
have to loosen the lower control panel (the one holding the contactors) to
achieve the room needed to maneuver your assembly out. The later models
had a shorter shaft from the cotter pin hole back, which allows for easier
removal of the rear pillow block, as I recall. You could shorten yours....
