Re: (ET) In Search Of... Again

Indeed. I have a 2 blade craftsman tractor and there is no un-mowed strip. Maybe the blades are upside-down, there is a curve at one end of each blade to provide lift to suck the grass in. If that's inverted it would tend to push the grass away from the blade.

The only reason I can think of for an un-mowed strip would be blades that are too short. I think that would be true for any deck - regardless of the number of blades it has.

Thanks for letting me know about the R36. Not sure what an unmowed stripe means but if it's what I think it means (a stripe between the blades that doesn't get mown) then I'll pass. I can't imagine why you'd like that or put up with it, really but maybe I'm misunderstanding. I'm down to an E12M or New Idea/whatever equivalent (for now, hopefully E15 or 20 in the future). Otherwise I'm going to take the plunge and get the Ryobi or some other kind if it comes along before I can't wait any longer... thanks for all the help and leads I've gotten from everybody really appreciate it.

I'd also
consider the small riders like the G.E. ER8-36 or New Idea R36.

I have the New Idea R36.  It's easy to maneuver around stuff. I found that
I
liked mowing with it so well that I never bothered to put the mower back
on
the E15.

It does have a few downsides.  The major one is that it has only 2 deck
motors, so it leaves an unmowed strip in the middle of each pass.  Of less
concern is that those small wheels get stuck easily, and that the clutch
is
grabby.  A minor one is that the deck is harder to clean after mowing than
the flip-up deck for the E16.

But I still like the R36 a lot, and prefer it to the E15 for mowing.  I
use
the 15 for snow moving in the winter, and for hauling stuff around in the
summer.

If you needed more mowing time, you might be able to fit a good-sized 36v
nominal lithium battery (maybe LiFePO4) in the back.

Also, adding a real solid state speed controller would make it more
civilized, IMO.
