Well, all fixed. I went to Radio Shack, bought a 100uf 50v electolytic
capacitor to replace the 20uf, pulled the old part off the board, put
the new one on, put the tractor together and everything works.
Quickly turning the key off and on while in speed 3 causes the tractor
to drop out, so the cap discharges quickly enough that it won't hold
the SCR in place. Actually as soon as you go into speed 1 anyway the
cap discharges, it just needs to stay on for a second to get the SCR
ON. Once on the SCR holds in, and if power is interrupted it drops out
until throttle is back to 0 (which charges the cap).
No biggie, back to work :-)

When replacing, make sure you have them lined up correctly with switches
cam. There is a little "slop" in the long bolt holes that secure them
to the frame of the switching mechanism.
I will replace the 2 small relays on the #3 card board shortly that I
have waiting for me in my garaged.
I'll do just about anything to keep it running smoothly as my wife likes
using it to cut the law and I love to have it in the winter to take care
of our driveway as well as a few neighbors drive way as well.
Hope this helps,

Subject: (ET) Drat, E15 card 1 down
E15 died this weekend, annoying. It was basically stuck, didn't respond,
PTO switch worked, nothing else.
Towed it to the back and took a look this evening. Normally the Card 1
on an E15 will supply power to pin 5 when the throttle is in run mode,
and will supply power to pin 6 when it is not. The output of these then
gate power to pin 4, which is the run contactor.
Checked switches, pin 6 gets power when the key is in, brake off, seat
closed, throttle off. Pin 5 gets power when throttle advanced to on.
Bypassing 5 to 4 starts the tractor in speed 1, speeds 2,3 do not come
on, speeds 4,5,6 speed up the motor (probably with the 1a/2a contactors
still off).
Card is out, it's probably in the pin 6 don't start the tractor till
running circuit. Any idea which component fails first before I start
checking?
Also why would bypassing 5-4 not get everything working? Is Q104 key to
both the delay before speed 2 and getting the SCR going? Or is it
something simple like C102 is dead?
Thanks!
C
