Re: (ET) Snowblower motor in E12?

Oh yeah that. With the snowblower there was a lot of.... snow. To cool it

I think that heat may be a problem for the blower motor. I put one on a home made sickle mower and on an 80 deg day that thing was so hot you could fry eggs on it in as little as 20 minutes. And the sickle mower does not take much power to operate...

When blowing heavy wet snow I have managed to pull over 350 amps from the NiCDs at 36 volts. Assuming 300 of that was the snowblower, that's 16hp peak sustained (15-45 seconds)

The snow blower motor that I had was a a monster. I have oftened wondered if anyone has done this. It is a series wound motor with some small windings to limit the motor speed with no load. The small winding drew something like 6 amps. I think the motor can generate 10-15 hp for short periods. Being a series would would require a diferent control circuit to reverse the field relative to the armature. You would not get as flat a speed load curve but it would have lots of power. You might put a switch on the speed limiting field winding to give you speed options and increase the efficency on the motor if you don't need to limit the speed to 3600 rpm.

I notice the snow blower motor is
rated 2.5 HP @ 66 amps/
My E12 has original 1.5 motor with a Curtis controller.
Would it be possible to replace the original motor with a
compound wound blower motor?
