(ET) Pressure washer update
Well, it's been a couple of years since I put the E12 shunt motor on a
pressure washer pump (1500 psi). Some thoughts when I dragged it out
this weekend.
First, the plywood backing plate I used to hold the motor and stuff is
de-laminating. I'll pull it this summer and replace it with solid
hardwood. There is some vibration issues with the pump, but that's life.
Put it together, pump had no pressure and the motor was a bit loud in
the centrifugal clutch arena. Took the top off, oiled the clutch and the
motor top shaft, put it together, much quieter. I run it with full
voltage to the field and armature, anyone know what those RPMs are?
Hoping they are comparable to a gas engine, but it seems to work well
enough under load.
Anyway, still nothing. Pulled the pump, removed the overpressure value
and cleaned out the pump proper, put some lithium grease in the pressure
valve, still nothing. Also filled the inside of the pump housing with
new oil and put it back on the motor (the original pump is lubricated on
the inside by the engine oil). Replaced the high pressure hose, gun,
then finally the adjustable tip.
That was it. With stock spray tips I get full pump pressure again. So I
cleaned off the side of the house and all the cars. With 50 feet of high
pressure cable I can go a bit further.
Overall it's running well. The pump is only a 1500 model, I have been
thinking about replacing it with a 3000 psi one to see if it works
better. I'm guessing the E12 motor can handle the load, the shaft fits
perfectly. I'd recommend building one if you come across a dead pressure
washer frame and such. And quieter than gas of course. :-)
