Sorry. If you keep the field voltage constant and hook the motor to a battery pack, it's going to spin. At a certain speed. Now if you start driving it with a gas engine, amps are going to flow into the battery. Drop the field voltage, amps will go down for a given engine load/speed. Increase field and amps will go up.
