Core charges are not a concern if you have a good scrap buyer in your area. The last batteries I took to a buyer here were worth 25 cents per pound. On heavy batteries like these that would be close to the core charge you would get.
 
Remember that scrap prices will vary from day to day - they tend to follow the stock market. Clean copper was over $3/lb a few months ago but is down to about $2/lb now.
