I agree.  I have one of the very first Alltrax ET controllers.  Back then
they were a lot cheaper, but I'd still pay today's price for the
convenience.

Customized to the GE setup that would be my first choice.

My second choice would be a PM motor controller. That should have all the needed support for proper direction changing etc. With a little work field weakening would work as well.

Series controllers might work but they do not expect regen current and can behave in an odd fashion if the see it.
