Re: (ET) wheel horse c-185 lift using a small winch for mower lift?

Don't use the stock lift switch.  Also, don't wire it to 18, 24, or 36: You'll toast it.  The HF winches we have are not designed to take that much current and amps.  That winch has a reversing contactor, and you could probably wire it into a DPDT switch, and replace the stock switch with it.  Otherwise it will be a nightmare to wire it correctly.

The spring idea is a good one, and one I wished I had used...I bent some stuff the first time I didn't pay attention.

Good luck with the install!

Hi Jeff       yes this is the one..    I have it now and will see how it will work. The way it was worded it sound like you had to free wheel it out, but it will do both free spool and power reverse.

It is 12 volt and it does have a reverse on it. It comes with a rocker  switch but I see no reason why we could not wire it to the switch on the tractor. The switch does have a bracket that you could mount it as is. It has a rubber cover over the switch to make it waterproof. The switch is powered to activate a control box to reverse or wind it in. It comes with a circuit breaker. I tested the terminals to the motor casing with a ohm meter and it is not grounded to the frame. The motor has a ground wire coming out of it so it will ground to the battery terminal instead of grounding to the frame.
I did not hook it up for a test to see how fast it will work yet.
I plan to use 18 volts to it instead of 32.

I plan to hook the cable to a heavy spring on the deck bracket so it will not pull the bracket off if you run it up too tight.
Harbor Freight had a coupon in the paper for $49. I am not a big fan on some of their stuff. This looks nice and because it is not working hard I thought I would try it. I know most of their stuff is not worth carrying home
On the harbor freight sight you sent me go to the manual down load button and you can read it and see what comes with it to wire it. (page 14)  It is 11" long with a 4 x 4 area at the spool.  The motor is 3" diameter.
I am thinking it has to be better than the motor they have on the tractor now.  Mine is shorted out.
I hope this will work for me.     Dave
