Thanks for the ideas.  I remember snugging up the blade springs several 
years ago, and it hadn't tripped in any use since.  But this stuff was 
ugly 
and heavy.  Yes, I'm lucky it wasn't pure ice (yet).  That came later, but 
by some miracle our power stayed on.

The ETs are pretty sturdy, but I'd be hesitant to lock the blade entirely. 
 
I just wonder how much the old guy can take.
