Re: (ET) Leaking E20

Probably not. What's done is done. Time to get better acquainted with your Fearless Peerless ®. It's not rocket science, but here are several ways to cause yourself pain ,agony and expense during tear down.

DO NOT use a slide hammer and flange puller to remove ANYTHING. ESPECIALLY the axle flanges! If you choose to do so, the circlips retaining the axle shafts in the differential side gears will break. IF YOU ARE LUCKY.

If you are NOT , the Torrington® bearings located on the side gears and axle shafts will be destroyed. Fun clean up job.

Replace these bearings with washers that Peerless used to replace the bearings with. More durable, less hassle.

Use either a press or a puller that applies force to the shaft ONLY.Less replacement parts to buy in addition to what's really wrong with it.

More information as I recall it, including part numbers. :)

Update: Still leaking. And I was looking in the archives and I see that in 2008 I posted about how the tractor was low on oil and was leaking.

Go figure. I wonder though if loosening the belts might stop the leak. Anyone have any other thoughts (aside from dumping the tranny, which I will do).

It is a bit louder, I guess a good 32oz of oil will fix it somewhat. Guess I can put a pan in the shed.
