Sure, loaded voltage alone doesn't help much with determining SOC, but it 
does serve as a rough guideline in preventing cell reversal.  The rule of 
thumb is that if you stay above 1.75 vpc, you have enough SOC margin that 
you're unlikely to reverse a cell.  Not impossible; just unlikely.  That's 
really what we were saying.

As with many other rules of thumb, your thumb size may vary.  It is a 
useful 
one, however.  The rule, I mean.
