I thought that's what I was trying to get across. :) An 'open' found by checking the 'A' and 'S' Terminals will show you that there is an issue, just not exactly what it IS. That you don't find out until AFTER you get the end bell off. <G>

Not at all; check the connectivity between the two armature bolts on the motor frame. If it's open, there is something open in either the brush holder, armature, or compensation field coil (the E20 and probably the E15 has a field winding in series with the armature. Keeps the motor from incinerating in the event of a full field weakening at full current draw)
