The best thing for your batteries would be for the batteries to be lightly used while you are gone because batteries like to be used and an idle lead acid battery tends to sulfate while inactive. The sulphur in the electrolite comes out of solution and deposits on the plates. This happens quickly on a discharged battery and slowly on a fully charged one.

The second best thing would be a good quality battery tender which is any intelligent charger that applies a small or intermittent charge to the batteries, once fully charged, as long as they sit inactive to counteract the slow discharge lead acid batteries have. This keeps a float charge on the batteries which tends to keep most of the sulphur in solution and off the plates.
