 David,
Most often they have cosmetic blemishes. Some manufacturers also have a 
time limit where the batteries may only be out for X amount of time after 
which they bring them back and label them 2nds. Mine are mostly blemished. 
For the record,I have had good luck with them.
 As with any FLA GC battery they need to be well cared for:Keep the water 
above the plates and charge them every time soon after they have been 
used. I prefer to use the original onboard charger and charge them per 
reccomendations in the manual. This type of battery is not really 
sophisticated and neither does the charger need to be. Be sure that your 
charger brings the batteries to about 42V towards end of charge. If it 
doesn't,you may suspect the capacitor which is a cheap fix.
 Anyway,sorry for the digression.I know you probably know a lot about 
batteries, David,but I sort of got onto the thread.
