Re: (ET) Tired of lead acid batteries.



1. Saft is no longer manufacturing the STM5-180 nicads.  

2. Last I heard, SG Photo had no more of the BB-600 nicads, even though 
they 
still list them on the website.  I suggest you call or email before giving 
them further consideration.

AFAIK (others may know more), you still have two choices if you want to 
try 
nicads.  

1. Try to find some used STM5-180s.  Be careful, I've seen some offered on 
Ebay that were takeouts from prototype electric buses.  Based on the 
description, it appeared that they had probably been used for a good 
portion 
of their rated lifetimes.  

2. Watch the mil-surplus auctions for BB-600s.  

I've been using East Penn Deka Dominator gel batteries (8G24) in my ET for 
almost 10 years - 6 of them in series-parallel.  They are the same 
footprint 
as GC batteries but shorter.  They don't have the capacity that GC 
batteries 
have, but it's sufficient for my needs.
