Re: (ET) Off Topic Electric Chainsaw

I've run a chain saw (Poulon 16"), circ saw, small air compressor, etc off of a modified square wave inverter (6 step? 12 step??). They all ran fine. The inverter does have good surge capabilities for start-up. I haven't measured the current draw from the chain saw and the name plate rating doesn't have much to do with real life. The inverter is powered by 12 volts, not 36, so 2 extra batteries and the invertoer in a cart being towed by the ET is the quick way for me to get mobile power.

However, the inverter killed my DeWalt battery charger for my cordless drill. I later heard that DeWalt had a problem with lots of those particular chargers not dealing well with potable generators on job sites. Trying to run audio equipment off the inverter results in lots of hum in the sound.

So, I think modified square wave is OK for motors, but risky for electronics.

Those of you that use electric chainsaws, what do you use and how many amps does it need at 115V?

Also, do any of you use it on a modified square sine wave inverter off your ET? If so, did it work fine or did the motor not like it at all?

Matt

I have a Husqvarna 316 electric chainsaw and have been very impressed with it. It is a nicely made tool and works very well.

The Husqvarna 316 at about the same price also looks good, but I haven't yet found any reviews.
