Re: (ET) Deep Cycle Battery Question
A hydrometer applied to a fully charged, well-equalized battery will tell
you how far sulfation has progressed with that battery. But there are
other
aging mechanisms which it won't detect or measure.
The original post is on the right track. The most useful test for a
battery
is a capacity test, since that's what we really care about anyway. Charge
it fully, apply a known load (preferably a constant current load), and
time
how long it takes to drop to 5.25 volts (6v) or 10.5 volts (12v) while
under
load.
