Re: (ET) painting, using Extend - sandblasting, etc
Years ago, I had some rusty VW rims. I sandblasted them to bare metal,
then
used a 'prep' chemical from DuPont that had the viscosity of water. (I
think
it attacked the micro rust in the surface of the bare metal).
Then used their Corlar 2 part epoxy primer.
Then their Imron brand paint (usually used for aircraft).
Unfortunately, these primers and paints are industrial use only.
Don't know if they are still made.
Might not withstand battery acid any better than other stuff mentioned
here,
but on external surfaces of tractor ...
My brother did auto body repair for years. He said rust almost always
came
back in 2 years. On the 'old car restore' projects, they had the frames
dip/vatted at specialty shops.
REMEMBER: The heavy plastic BATTERY bags were in these originally.
Anyone know if super heavy plastic, such as that the preformed ponds are
made
from, could protect the battery boxes (while not holding so much moisture
between outside of plastic liner and inside of battery box, so that it
rusted
anyway!) ?
