Yes, I have heard this also.  Yes, I had the correct wires connected.  I
just talked with Alltrax and I will be shipping the bad unit back to
them.  They asked if I saw burn marks at the field connectors.  I did
not, but they have stated problems with wrong field leads being
connected in the past.  They also say crossing the b+ m- connectors will
smoke things.  I have checked and rechecked these for correct
connections with a continuity checker.

Are you sure you had the correct motor terminals?  It's not always easy
to see what's going on under that machine.  I believe I remember reading
that on the E20, the terminals for the thermal breaker are similar to
and close to the field terminals.  Apparently a couple of Alltrax
controllers have died from trying to power a dead short (the thermal
breaker) as if it were the field.
