This solution from early 1970s for loosening screw head bolts in aluminum
motorcycle cases.
Use a manual impact wrench to remove the old bolts, then replace the bolts
with allen heads.
Manual impact wrench available at your cycle dealer has the following
advantages.
- When hit with a hammer the impact wrench (looks a bit like a fat screw
driver) vibrates the shaft of the screw helping break it loose, provides
pressure and turning torque at the same instant (to prevent tearing up the head)
equal to how hard the impact wrench was hit (with a hammer). If this doesn't
dislodge your bolts try heating the case a bit with a propane torch and repeat
above procedure. Impact wrench costs about $12 with assortment of head screw
sizes.
