Re: (ET) Alltrax Controller

Hi Bob,

I was going to respond to your first email and say not to worry, just attach everything according to the schematic and you'll be fine.

Then I started reviewing the schematic and realized that I wasn't sure exactly what is the intent of the "optional" switch that the alltrax schematic and instructions refer to.

I'm not using the optional switch, and I have the charger across the main disconnect as per original installation.  And I have the seat switch and the key switch installed per the schematic.  The brake switch is always closed since the brake lever is rusted in place.

So, I'm not sure that my install is completely safe.  That's why I didn't send the email I was working on.

On the other hand, I've been using the charger through the main disconnect (always with the key switch open) for nearly a year with no problems.  So I imagine you should be OK if that's how yours is wired.

ps. If you don't have the schematic from Alltrax, this is available for download at http://www.alltraxinc.com/old/Elec-Trak.htm at the bottom right there is a link "Elec-Trak info" which will get you a AlltraxDCX-ET Manual.zip zip file containing 4 files, one of which is the "E-15 Schematic.bmp"

I recently bought a tractor that has an alltrax dcx300-et controller in it and have been trying to find some information on using the onboard ET charger with this unit.  I read somewhere that the controller should be disconnected from the circuit when charging the batteries.  Does this mean turning the key switch off and leaving the disconnect engaged?  Alltrax web site mentions another switch that is used if the main disconnect is not in place, but I do not have this on my tractor.  What precautions do you guys use when charging your alltrax controlled tractors?

Thanks,

Bob K
