hi all, i've had the same problem more than once.  cured it by attaching 
the 
charger cover, the tin that houses the timer switch, to the top of the 
front 
battery boxes. this prevents resistors from moving forward and touching 
front 
frame when batteries and spacers are stuffed into front compartment.  used 
2 
short pieces of insulated wire and drilled hole in horizontal part of 
front, 
side battery box, the part where the model/serial number plate is located.
