(ET) E-12 Elect. Prob. (post 3)
Problem solved! Thanks to all those who sent advice and analysis. However,
I traced the problem to a blown R1 resistor. It had flopped forward enough
to short out on the frame. It blew 1 inch of resistance strapping, burned
through the headlight wiring, and the short made the center stud between
the resistors hot. I was about to trace the mystery voltage that made the
motor run in reverse with the key off when I found the blown resistor. I
patched the resistor with metal roof flashing. This made everything work
fine, so the mystery voltage is still unsolved. No diodes damaged or
contactors welded. I learned a few things about the E-12 and still wish I
had a real GE schematic/or wiring diagram. If any one wants a copy of the
4 page OP631, I will be glad to make a copy of mine and send it to you.
Thanks again.
